U.S. Senate Passes Bill to Make Daylight Saving Time Permanent

In a move that is being praised by many, the U.S. Senate has passed legislation that would make daylight saving time permanent starting in 2023. This means that we will no longer have to change our clocks twice a year, and supporters of the bill believe that it will have many benefits such as reducing seasonal depression and enabling children to play outdoors later in the day.

Proponents of the change argue that it could stop a slight increase in car crashes which commonly happens around time changes. They point to studies revealing a small rise in the rate of heart attacks and strokes shortly after the time change. They assert the measure might help businesses, such as golf courses, that would receive more customers with extra evening daylight.

What Are The Benefits?

There are many benefits that are being touted by supporters of the bill. These include:

  • Enable children to play outdoors later
  • Reduce seasonal depression
  • More economic activity overall

Let’s hope the House of Representatives approves the bill so it can be sent to President Joe Biden to sign!
